I run this site the way I would run a buying brief: find the people who measure, read what they measured, then go and look at what is actually for sale today. The second half is the part most guides skip, and it is where the money is.

What I do every update

  1. Re-read the labsRTINGS for isolation and battery, SoundGuys and What Hi-Fi? for listening and endurance, Tom's Guide for long-term wear.
  2. Re-capture the marketEvery live listing for the models I cover, with price, variant and seller, on one day, so the comparison is like-for-like.
  3. Compare each model against itselfColour against colour, generation against generation. This run found 3 models where the same headphones sold at materially different prices on the same day.
  4. Check the claims against the sourcesAny figure that has no test or spec behind it does not go on a card, and a listing price that cannot be true gets hidden with a note.

What I will not do

Rank by star rating. Print a decibel claim with no method behind it. Repeat a struck-through price I cannot verify. Or attach a measurement to my own name that I did not take: when a number comes from RTINGS or SoundGuys, their name is on it, because that is what makes it worth something.
